Florida House of Representatives Forms Hemp Workgroup – What This Means for Florida’s Hemp Industry

The Florida House of Representatives has taken a significant step in shaping hemp regulation by establishing a Combined Workgroup on Hemp. According to a memorandum from Speaker Daniel Perez, this workgroup will spend seven days reviewing upcoming legislation and providing lawmakers with the resources they need to understand this evolving industry.

At Florida Healthy Alternatives Association (FLHAA), we know that hemp farmers, business owners, and consumers have a vested interest in the future of Florida’s hemp laws. While FLHAA does not yet have an official position on this initiative, we are committed to keeping you informed. We invite you to share your thoughts—what does this mean for Florida’s hemp industry?

Why Was This Hemp Workgroup Created?

Hemp regulation has been a hot topic in Tallahassee. As Speaker Perez noted, complicated and heavily lobbied issues—like hemp—often fall outside the personal and professional experience of many legislators. This workgroup is designed to give lawmakers the opportunity to:

✅ Review multiple hemp-related bills expected this session.
✅ Engage with stakeholders across Florida’s hemp industry.
✅ Discuss potential changes to regulations affecting farmers, retailers, and consumers.

The workgroup is made up of 24 lawmakers, with 12 members from the Industries & Professional Activities Subcommittee and 12 from the Housing, Agriculture & Tourism Subcommittee. Representative Michelle Salzman will serve as the Combined Workgroup Manager.

This workgroup will begin its discussions on March 3, 2025, and will last for seven days.

What This Means for Florida’s Hemp Industry

As Florida’s hemp industry continues to grow, regulatory clarity remains a major concern for hemp farmers, CBD retailers, and alternative health advocates. With new hemp-related bills being introduced, the workgroup’s findings could have lasting effects on:

Hemp farming regulations – Will there be new requirements for cultivation and processing?
CBD product sales – Could labeling or testing requirements change?
Consumer access – Will new laws expand or restrict availability?

At FLHAA, we believe a thriving hemp industry benefits Florida’s economy and consumers. However, we also recognize that changes to hemp regulations must be carefully considered to ensure they support small businesses, farmers, and public health.
